Oto Sui
Sound. Water. Light.
What is Oto Sui?
Oto Sui is an experimental art project exploring the intersection of analogue and digital creativity using sound water and light.
It fuses composed soundscapes, cymatic visuals, and blockchain technology to create artworks that are both visceral and virtual.
At its core:
Composed sound moves water, light captures form, and art emerges.
Who’s Behind It?
Oto Sui is led by UK-based artist Ed Ball, having worked with painting sound for the last two decades, he has been working towards this multimedia project for several years.
The Creative Process
Composing the Soundscape
Built from a blend of analogue instruments like piano, tape, and esoteric sound sources like the Folktek Resonant Garden, combined with digital algorithmic and generative sequences.Visualising Sound Through Water
The sound is then pushed through water using exciters in a large aluminium tray, creating cymatic movement patterns. Meanwhile, a digital sound-reactive visual module projects generative imagery onto the water's surface.
Capturing the Moment
High-resolution digital stills are taken from the illuminated water. These become digitally certified artworks with on-chain provenance, together with a limited print run of physical artworks.
Bringing Art to Life
A limited number of the digital artworks will be printed onto Chromaluxe and framed in a hand-charred Shou Sugi Ban cedar frames signed by the artist. Every piece is a dialogue between natural elements and digital code, between moment and memory.
Tour & Educational Engagement
Oto Sui is not just an art project; it is designed to be a shared experience. Plans are underway to tour the work as a live exhibition, where audiences can encounter the process and final artworks side by side.
Alongside the exhibition, I am developing an educational programme of talks and workshops aimed at colleges, universities, and creative communities. These sessions will open up the methods and ideas behind Oto Sui.
The goal is to inspire the next generation of creatives to explore the intersections between art, music, and technology, and to spark new conversations about how creativity evolves in a digital age.
